A short update for a short day of paddling.
Day 8: Leech Lake River Camp → Bromenshenkel’s
Date: July 16th, 2022
URM 1214 → URM 1201
Distance today: 13 Miles
River Time: 4 hrs
This section of river continued the good current I’d been experiencing since the Winnibigoshish Dam. This was the first day I encountered any kind of eddy activity. There must be enough flow and volume to create back flows, whereas before today they were not on my radar at all. I’ll be on the lookout for them now!
Today was a light paddling day, and my destination was a River Angel’s home, so I took the day easy and just enjoyed myself. I stopped to explore, and took my time to soak in the wildlife. The river was humming with activity and all the birds were living to the fullest. Here are some of the highlights:
After all this activity, and just enjoying being out in the beautiful day, I had arrived at the Bromenschenkel’s, River Angels on this stretch of river. They offered me a bunkhouse to stay at, and a place to do laundry! I busied myself in the afternoon with drying, cleaning, and organizing my gear! It seems as if a giant reset button has been pressed. I feel refreshed and ready to continue downstream tomorrow!
River Log Day 8
1212 - Gambler’s Point: Marshy landing, but beautiful, very spacious site on a bluff. 1 table, 1 latrine. No road access.
Amazing pix. I already think I’m going to miss these upper reaches of the young River! And I’m wondering whether you’ll encounter these wonderful River Angels all the way downstream?!?
