The moonlight photo was lovely. What a special experience!
Sorry, but I laughed when I saw how close your tent was to the tracks. I’m glad you had a shorter day after that interrupted sleep. It’s always nice to hear how hospitable the River Angels are to you.
Wishing you smooth waters and no headwinds! Take care!
P.S. that poor turtle looked Iike another softshell - so sad.
Haha glad you enjoyed! Yeah I honestly dudn’t notice the tracks when I set up the tent—it was like 11:30pm! But man it was old from that close!
PS. Yeah, I know! Very sad. Can confirm, it was a softshell. Not the only wildlife I’ve seen stricken by motorboats, but the first turtle I’ve noticed.
They truly are well named! They make resupplying much easier, especially for a solo paddler, as I don’t want to leave my canoe alone for too long. River Angels are named after Trail Angels who help hikers on the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails!
It’s so cool to read this! I found it while doing research for our trip.
I’m from Canada. My husband, daughter, and 3 friends are canoeing from Natchez to the Gulf starting next week. Layne is shuttling us. We are so excited! It will be a much different experience than the canoeing we are used to doing in the Northern Canadian Rockies. Alligators instead of grizzlies…Humidity instead of mid summer frosts! One thing may be the same though, mosquitos.
I look forward to following your adventure. Awesome well rounded entries and your pictures are great too.

Nice!! Enjoy the trip! Tell Layne I say hi, we work together at Quapaw CAnoe Company!
Don’t forget your marine radio, to stay in contact with the tows. You will need it for the ports of Baton Rouge and New Orleans!
Paddles up to you!
